Dance Cavise Studios Teachers

 

Dance Cavise is always striving to offer its students an outstanding teaching faculty, including top New York City professionals. Every teacher specializes in the discipline of their class. With diverse personalities, each teacher brings their unique experience to the classroom, while still maintaining the integrity of our syllabus. Mr. Cavise conducts weekly staff meetings to discuss new teaching ideas and address the specific needs of students. Our faculty members include:

 Baud_headshot Maximillien Baud – Ballet  

Mr. Baud trained at the School of American Ballet under Peter Martins, and later joined the New York City Ballet.  He began his professional career with the Carolina Ballet and, in 2005, joined the Pennsylvania Ballet, where he performed several principal roles.  In 2010, Mr. Baud joined the National tour of Billy Elliot the Musical, performing the role of OLDER Billy, where he was nominated for a 2012 Helen Hayes Award for best supporting actor.  Additionally, he was a featured dancer in the Academy Award winning film, Black Swan. Mr. Baud has been teaching Ballet in several NYC metro schools and is happy to join the Dance Cavise staff.

 Natrea Blake Natrea Blake – Hip Hop  

Natrea Blake was born and raised in New York City. She received her B.F.A in dance from The Juilliard School and graduated from the world famous High School for the Performing Arts(The Fame School). She also trained at Bernice Johnson, The Ailey School, Ballet Hispanico, and Peridance. Natrea has worked with many different choreographers such as Paul Taylor, Lar Lubovitch, Hans Van Manen, David Parsons, Savion Glover and Marguerite Derricks.  Natrea has taught Contemporary, Modern, and Jazz at many artistic institutions such as, Broadway Dance Center (NYC), The Ailey School, Earl Mosley Institute for the Arts, Harbor Conservatory for the performing Arts, Dance Cavise, Tulsa Ballet, and The Broadway Experience(NYC). She most recently opened her own school, THE L.N.D Studio for the Arts in Westbury NY which runs throughout the school year.  Natrea is also an accomplished commercial and Hip Hop dancer who recently assisted Darrell Grand Moultrie on Beyonce’s (Mrs. Carter Tour 2013). Other credits including: Fashion Rocks Live! at Radio City Music Hall (CBS), The Dave Chappelle Show, Law & Order (Trial by Jury), Milwaukee Repertory Theater “The Color Purple” (assistant choreographer 2014), Beyonce (Staples Center), Stars of Ballet and Broadway (Detroit Music Hall),  and The Elan Awards(NYC). Natrea has been assisting choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie for the last 15 years at major institutions including:  Atlanta Ballet,The Juilliard School, The Ailey School, Perry Mansfield, Milwaukee Ballet, The COCA School (St. Louis), and also traveled to South Africa to work with young dancers.


 
 Joe Cavise Joe Antony Cavise – Director / Jazz
Mr. Cavise began his professional career in 1981 when he joined the Actor’s Equity Association and the Screen Actor’s Guild. He received critical acclaim from The New York Times for his role of Dick McGann in the Off- Broadway production of Street Scene. In 1983, he joined the original Broadway Company of Cats and later, performed the lead role of “Mr. Mistoffelees”. He was featured in A Chorus Line- The Movie, The Secret of My Success (with Michael J. Fox) and has appeared in many TV films and Soap operas. Mr. Cavise decided to leave his performing career to dedicate himself to children and dance education.  He managed and taught at STEPS on Broadway, one of NYC’s foremost dance institutions. In 1989 he and his wife Lori, opened Dance Cavise Studios. In 2001, Mr. Cavise was quoted as “Westchester’s Dance Man” in Dance Teacher Magazine, a national publication dedicated to dance educator’s in the United States. He has now been teaching dance for over thirty-five years. In 1991, Mr. Cavise founded the Off Center Dance Theatre, Inc., (OCDT ), now in residence at the Dance Cavise Studios. He has created dozens pieces of work exposing scores of dancers to his choreography.  He strongly believes that children are our future, and hopes that his legacy will have a lasting and positive effect on their lives.
 
Elizabeth Douglas

Elizabeth Douglas – Ballet / Modern  

Elizabeth received her Masters Degree in Dance Education from New York University and her B.A. in Dance Performance from the University of Buffalo. She also holds a teaching certificate in Dance for grades K-12th. Ms Douglas is affiliated with several children’s organizations throughout NYC, including the Harkness Dance Center, teaching interactive adaptive theatre. She has worked with several noted choreographers such as Alvin Nikolais, Douglas Dunn, and Melissa Hayden. Elizabeth continues to enjoy the influence and growth that teaching , choreographing, and performing bring to each other. She is thrilled to expand this philosophy at Dance Cavise.

 
Olga Dovorovenko

Olga Dvorovenko – Ballet   

Mrs. Dvorovenko has been teaching classical ballet for over 40 years and is currently on staff at the New York Ballet Institute, Ballet Academy East, and the School of American Ballet Theatre in New York City. She has won the “Distinguished Artist of the Ukraine Award” and has taught pre-professional and professional level students all over the world, most recently in France, Canada, and the Czech Republic.  Olga’s daughter, Irina, is the former “Prima Ballerina” and principle dancer with New York’s American Ballet Theatre.  Olga, considered the Ballet Mistress at Dance Cavise, has been on our staff for over 10 years and, with her husband Vladimir, teaches our pre-professional levels.

 
Vladimir Dorovenko Vladimir-Dvorovenko – Ballet

Mr. Dvorovenko received his training at the State Ballet School and State University of Art in Kiev, Ukraine. He has taught and performed both nationally and internationally with the Ballet Theatre of Ukraine. He and his wife Olga, (also on the Dance Cavise staff), are parents of Irina Dvorovenko, the former “Prima Ballerina” and principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in NYC.  Besides teaching classical technique at Dance Cavise, Vladimir also teaches a unique “Character” class, based on ethnic Russian movement.

Jamie Himpel – Jazz / Studio Manager   

Ms. Himpel is originally from Kansas City, where she trained and performed with the American Dance Center of Kansas City. She received a B.A. in literature from SUNY Purchase and went on to dance professionally with the original company of Off Center Dance Theatre. Jamie has worked with the Dance Cavise Studios since it’s’ inception in 1989 and will soon be celebrating her 25th year with the organization. Besides teaching our younger students, she is also Studio Manager, in charge of day to day operations.

Emily has been tapping since 1986 and loves sharing the joy of making noise with others!  She has performed in NYC, touring nationally and internationally as a contemporary dancer for many years. She is currently a soloist, pushing creative boundaries with fire dancing, belly dancing, and sprung stilts (not all at the same time) performing every week at venues all over the tri-state area.  Emily is also a proud and happy mom of one and lives in Hudson Valley.

 
Petra Duskova  Petra Duskova – Jazz

Petra was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic.  Since four she danced at In Dance a studio in Prague in which she became a member and a teacher.  In 2008 Petra travelled with the World Dance Movement and was an assistant to Michele Assaf, Desmond Richardson, and Bruno Colinet.  In 2013 Petra graduated from Tanecni Centrum Praha dance school.  That summer she received 2 Full Scholorship years for a certificate program at Peridance Capezio Center Igal Peri located in New York City in which she graduated in 2015. Petra Duskova currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and assists Cheryl Copeland at Alvin Ailey School. 

 
  Raymond “Rep” Young – Hip-hop – 

Hip-hop Choreographer/Instructor/Dancer, “Rep” has worked with many artist such as Chris Brown ,Mary J. blidge, Neyo, CL, Teyana Taylor , and Lil Mama.  He has studied various styles at Broadway Dance Center ,Peri Dance Studios , and Steps On Broadway and now works with a company called “Illuminate”, which performed on America’s Got Talent.  Rep starred in his own Off-Broadway show called “Artist of Light” for over two years in the heart of Times Square NYC, and traveled with the show internationally. He has been dancing and teaching for over 16 years.  “My passion is dance and children not only teaching them steps but the history behind the movement and its origin”.

Ms. Roth holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a degree in Musical Theatre from the University of Southern California. She has performed in industrials and commercials, as a guest artist with internationally acclaimed tapper, Gregg Russell, and his dance company, as well as appearing as an Equity performer in numerous musicals. Favorite credits include Kristine in A Chorus Line, Rhoda in White Christmas, Gertie Cummings in OKLAHOMA!, and Ethel Peas in Thoroughly Modern Millie. This past summer, Kate was the dance captain of the new musical, VOTE!, choreographed by her mentor, Rachelle Rak.

Aaron Thao is originally from Minneapolis, MN and graduated from Brown University with a ScB in Human Biology. He discovered a love for ballet while studying at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and left to pursue a career in exploring the human body through the art of dance. Coming from a background in medicine, Aaron incorporates an education of human anatomy and function in his classes, particularly for developing young students, to ensure safe training, proper strength conditioning, and to minimize risk for injury. He believes a foundation in how the body works is critical to understanding what the body the can accomplish with movement and musicality.  Aaron has danced with Ballet for Young Audiences, Continental Ballet Company, Exit 12 Dance Company and has freelanced for various dance companies throughout NYC. He trained with teachers at Minnesota Dance Theater, TU Dance, Steps on Broadway, and Ballet Academy East and was recently featured in the July 2014 issue of Minnesota Medicine.

Tucson, Arizona native Winnie Berger began her dance training at Ballet Arts under the direction of Mary Beth Cabana. In 2008, as a trainee for Ballet Tucson, Winnie danced in Swan Lake, A Midsummer Night’€™s Dream, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella. She also participated in summer programs at Pacific Northwest Ballet, LINES Ballet, Houston Ballet, Washington School of Ballet, and Dance New York International in Paris. Completing a dual degree in Dance and Theology in the Ailey/Fordham BFA program, Winnie has performed works by Karen Arceneaux, Francesca Harper, and Carolyn Dorfman, and performed in Nick Cave’s installation in Grand Central Station with choreography by William Gill. She is currently working with Exit 12 Dance Company, Ballet Theatre Company, as well as, Pink Pig Ballet.

Mr. Townsend trained with Rebecca Davis, Philadelphia Ballet School and Broadway Bound Dance Academy. He trained at Point Park for 2 years before furthering his studies at Peridance Capezio Center in New York City. Xavier has worked with Raphael Xavier, Rebecca Davis Dance Company, Jesse Zarrit and various others.

Erin Pryor, Artistic Director of Erin Pryor Dance Theatre, is a graduate of Manhattanville College’s Dance and Theatre Department.  Erin grew up a dancer and realized at a young age that she wanted to be a professional dancer and creator. Her dancing has brought her to many stages working with various artists such as Bill Hastings, Kazuko Hirabayshi, and Ben Munisteri.  Erin’s work with Erin Pryor Dance Theatre has been performed throughout Westchester and New York City in festivals, pop up performances and seasonal performances. She has taken these experiences and studies to bring dance lessons to young artists to help them find the joy in dance and the creative process.

Vanessa Tamburi – Ballet/Pointe   

Ms. Tamburi began her career at the National Dance Academy of Rome and went on to study at Mudra, the school directed by M. Bejart, in Brussels. She has worked as a solo dancer for key European theatres, including the Ballet of Montercarlo, the Hamburg Ballet, and the Vienna Opera Ballet. Building on her professional experience as a classical dancer, Mrs. Tamburi developed experimental contemporary choreographic work, melding dance with contemporary theatre, visual and multimedia art. Her choreography has been performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, United States. In 2007 she established the Company “FLUSSO Dance Project”, of which she is currently artistic director and choreographer.  In 2011 she moved to NYC where she participated in various dance festivals such as “ Cool NY 2012 & 2013 dance festival” “ NYC 10” “ Green Line platform” “ Between the Seas Festival 2012 /2013” and Moving sound festival 2013. She is a ballet teacher of the Dance Cavise Studios since September 2011.

 
  Nellesa Walthour – Contemporary Jazz
Nellesa Walthour’s theater credits include Disney’s The Lion King (national tour), Ragtime (Kennedy Center’s production), Once on This Island (Andrea), and Pippin (Fastrada u/s). She trained on full fellowship at the Alvin Ailey School and danced with companies that include The Metropolitan Opera, Dallas Black Dance Theater (DBDT), Patricia Kenney Dance Collection, and Nathan Trice Ritutals. She has had the pleasure of working with such choreographers as Ron Brown, Hope Clarke, Sean Curran, Louis Johnson, Alonzo King, Donald McKayle and Earl Mosely. Nellesa has choreographed works for DBDT, NYMF’s Trav’lin (associate), Boston’s Jazz Dance Recovery Project, benefits and solo projects. She has also performed the works of Milton Myers, Elisa Monte, David Parsons, Talley Beatty, José Limón and Donald Byrd. Nellesa is a Harvard graduate, a certified instructor in GYROTONIC® and mat Pilates and a member of AEA.  She is currently teaching for several studios in New York and has been on the Dance Cavise faculty for 4 years teaching Contemporary Jazz.
