Winter 2003 VOLUME 9
DANCE CAVISE NEWS |
Friends,
Happy New Year! We hope that your holidays were festive, and that you haven't
broken any New Year's resolutions yet.
Dance Cavise has some exciting changes in store for 2004. First and foremost, our mid-1900's building will undergo a "face lift" this summer. Essential roof and façade repairs are needed and at the same time, we will be expanding Studio 4. This new second floor studio (above the lobby) will be enlarged to over 1000 square feet with a dramatic new cathedral ceiling. During the summer, we will continue Camp Cavise, our Performing Arts Camp, with use of our three main studios. We will temporarily close our main doors on Halstead Avenue during construction, with our main access through the doors facing our parking lot. This exciting project is scheduled to begin on June 1st and will be completed by Labor Day, just in time for fall classes.
Speaking of Camp Cavise, our seven week program will still be packed with fun (see article below). This year, we will have only ONE performance on August 12th. The early weeks of camp will focus on fundamental and improvisational skills as well as create a more challenging program for the advanced dancers, with the later weeks focusing on the performance.
Lastly, this spring, Dance Cavise, will offer its first annual "Masters of Dance" Day (M.O.D.) at our studio in celebration of National Dance Week. "MOD" will feature Master Classes in every aspect of dance as well as related classes, such as injury prevention, career advice, and marketing yourself as a dancer. Look inside this newsletter for additional information regarding National Dance Week's "MOD" at Dance Cavise.
Happy dancing!
Take Care, JOE and LORI CAVISE
Although it may still
be cold outside, we are planning for a hot summer at "Camp Cavise 2004".
This year's camp, a seven week program, begins Monday, June 28th and runs through
Thursday, August 12th. We will use the first three weeks to teach fundamental
skills as well as expand on script, costume and set ideas for the performance.
The remaining four weeks will be in preparation for our single performance at
the end of camp on August 12th. There is a mininum registration of at least
two weeks for the performance. Through out the summer, we will continue with
the exciting features Camp Cavise has to offer:

1. Weekly classes in dance, drama, & music, plus script writing,
choreography, set & costume design.
2.. Different theme day each week, ranging from Crazy Hats to Western Hoedown
3. Ice Cream Day competition, where campers and counselors work together in
a performance for the camp
4. Field trips to Westchester Broadway Theatre & to a Broadway show.
5. Surprise contests like our Water Balloon Blast & Ballerina Races.
Our talented staff will make sure your child has a rich learning experience while remembering that summer also means FUN for kids. We encourage campers to attend at least two consecutive weeks for a more complete experience. Register early as discounts apply for a limited time only and space is limited on our field trips.
If you are interested
in being a camp counselor, look inside this newsletter for more information...

KID'S KORNERThis Issue of Kid's Korner Is Written By I was introduced to Dance Cavise at my elementary school when Joe and the OCDT Youth Ensemble came and did a workshop for us. After that performance, I was quickly enrolled into a class at Dance Cavise North. Each year after that, I added more classes, when most of the other girls quit. Dance exhilarates me. Even in class my body loads up on power, confidence and strength. Yet, the feeling I get on stage is one I cannot explain. I fill with adrenaline and feel invigorated. Performing is all the reason I need to train and work hard, and that is what keeps me coming back for more. Now, here I am, four years later, addicted to dance. Whether it's traveling to Mamaroneck or the Vista studio, being a teacher demo, or even taking five or more classes a week, I want to be there. However, my biggest accomplishment so far was being selected as an apprentice in the Off Center Dance Theatre's Youth Ensemble this past October. Dance has taught me what dedication and determination mean. I have made new friendships, and collected memories. I could not have asked for a better group of people to share so much of my time with. When I am at the studio, I feel I am enveloped into a world of love and passion for dance. I thank Dance
Cavise for their help, guidance, understanding, and just everything.
I am looking forward to four more years as a Dance Cavise student! You
guys are the best! WINTER CALENDARHere is a list of Winter Studio Closings CHILDREN ADULTS Call Dance Cavise for an updated Winter schedule
