DANCE CAVISE NEWS

Friends,

The end of another school year at Dance Cavise always brings mixed emotions. We will be saying goodbye to many of our girls that we have known for more than a decade. We want to wish them all luck in their pursuit of excellence.

Now, we look ahead to the summer. This year will be more exciting than usual as our studio experiences a new "facelift" with our renovation project. We will be getting a much-needed new roof and front façade, as well as expanding our upstairs studio to over 1000 square feet. Entrance to the building will be limited to the DOWNSTAIRS doors from the parking lot. There will be NO access from the Halstead Ave doors until after Labor Day. We will still have three fully functioning studios inside the building, and expect there will be NO interruption of Camp Cavise 2004, or any of our classes. After our spring term ends; however, please note that the studio will be closed from June 14th through June 17th, when the new roof trusses are installed. We trust you will be as patient as we are during this time, and look forward to a beautiful new studio in the fall.

Have a wonderful summer and keep dancing!
JOE and LORI

Everything Old is New Again

After years of water damage and a deteriorating front façade, Dance Cavise will get a major facelift this summer. Our main entrance on Halstead Avenue will be temporarily closed off from Memorial Day to Labor Day as we renovate our studio. Students should use the parking lot entrance for Camp Cavise and all summer classes. When we see you in September, you won't recognize the "old" studio. We have redesigned the front entrance with new windows and a stucco façade. The best part is our brand new, state-of-the art expansion of our studio upstairs, with cathedral ceilings and a panoramic view. Take your photos now as we enter a new era. We will be the same Dance Cavise on the inside, but with a brand new outside.

OCDT'S Youth Ensemble

Off Center Dance Theatre's Youth Ensemble hosted an outstanding day of dance at their invitational concert at Purchase College this past March. We felt a real sense of community with our fellow participants. We want to thank Ailey Fordham Student Dancers, Isadora Duncan Youth Ensemble, New England Dance Theatre and Scarsdale Ballet for sharing their talents and gracing the stage with us. What a treat for all to have American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Irina Dvorovenko warm-up the dancers and then perform . Ms. Dvorovenko graciously signed autographs and posed for photographs after the performance. The Dancers were treated to "goodie bags" backstage generously provided by Bank Of New York, Motionwear Inc., Danskin Inc., Bloch Inc. and Kenneth Cole Productions. Auditions for next year's Off Youth Ensemble will take place in early fall.

MOD Masters Of Dance

Everybody was dancin' up a storm on Saturday, April 24th when Dance Cavise held its first annual Masters Of Dance (MOD) DAY. Kicking off this year's National Dance Week celebration, MOD Day treated our dancers to some of NYC's finest professional teachers. Finis Jhung, one of New York City's most respected and celebrated Ballet Masters, started the day's events. Pedro Ruiz from Ballet Hispanico; Ben Hartley from Broadway and London's West End; Hip Hopper Jay T. Jenkins and Paul Taylor's Jill Echo helped us dance all day .

It was a wonderful way to begin our National Dance Week celebration. Be sure to check-out our Children's poster display in our lobby the next time you visit the studio. Thanks to everyone who helped us have a great week!

KID'S KORNER

Hannah Blaser, 11 years old, Swiss nationality

Last summer, I moved from Lausanne, Switzerland, to New York, and I was introduced to Dance Cavise through their summer camp. My mom had this idea to enroll me in an American camp so that I could learn the language while having fun. The camp teachers and fellow students explained things to me twice and I could even say my first theatre piece in English. Joe was very impressed. After camp, I enrolled into their yearly program. Dance schools aren't the same in Switzerland. There is usually only one teacher that teaches you everything. At Dance Cavise, I have many teachers for Ballet, Jazz, and Hip-Hop. Thanks to Dance Cavise I have made new friends, great progress in the English language and I am collecting many joyful memories for the day I will have to move back to Switzerland…sniff, sniff….
