Friends,

In 1988, I left the Broadway production of CATS and married my long time friend Lori Biscardi. Two months later, in January of 1989, Lori and I opened Dance Cavise. Now, 14 years later, we are approaching a milestone that is noteworthy. This spring, two students will be leaving us that have been with Dance Cavise since that first day in 1989. One of the very first students to register with us was Carly Daum, a 4-year-old Creative Movement student, and in the fall of that year, was Lauren Jasinski, a kindergarten student taking Jazz. Both of these students have danced with us every year since that first day. These two are part of a special group of graduating seniors, many of whom have been with us for over a decade. For me, personally, this marks the beginning of a new era. We have come "full circle" now in the life of a child for the first time. Hopefully, there will be many children to follow in their footsteps as Dance Cavise effects the lives of hundreds of young children. We will miss them and hope that they will remember us as they go on to college and enter the "real" world with fond memories.
On another note, as we live in this "real" world, there are safety issues that we all are conscious of. As standard procedure, we do not allow any child to leave the building without proper adult supervision. We are making sure that we have at least two phone numbers for each student should we need to contact you unexpectedly. Remember that we are striving, as always, to keep our dance environment a child friendly place.

Have a great summer.

OCDT's
"Dance The Night Away"

Joe and Lori Cavise with HELPUSA'S chairperson, Maria Cuomo Cole

Our most successful fundraisers in years, "Dance The Night Away" was held on February 8th at the Bedford Historic Hall in Bedford, NY. Speakers from the Blthydale Children's Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, and the HELPUSA organization highlighted the event. Guests enjoyed dinner and dancing into the late hours of the evening. Our not-for-profit organization is dedicated to the Youth Ensemble's commitment to children and the community. Funds raised that evening included a generous contribution from The Box of Rain Foundation. Thank you to all whom helped make this a wonderful event!

OCDT'S Youth Ensemble

Off Center Dance Theatre's Youth Ensemble had a very active season, with master classes, dance workshops, and their first Dance Invitational. In February, the company performed for the children at Blythedale Children's Hospital for a special Valentine's Day Show. At the end of the month, the dancers performed at the first annual Winterfest Dance Festival in Stamford, CT. This weeklong event featured a workshop and performance with the David Parsons Dance Company. The week culminated with a Youth Ensemble performance at The Rich Forum. In March, the company hosted and performed at Dance 2003, a concert featuring other youth dance organizations from the tri-state area. Two weeks later, the Youth Ensemble performed at Westchester's first DRA (Dancers Responding to Aids) dance invitational. This spring, our company will perform with HELP USA's Genesis dancers at their gala dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in May. Congratulations girls!
