Fall 2005 VOLUME 11 No. 1
DANCE CAVISE NEWS |
From
The DirectorGrowing up, it was so hard saying goodbye to the summer, and like every hid, there was always that feeling of anxiety about the impending school year. Who's class will I be in, and with what friends? Will everything change from last year? We're sure that many of your children have the same apprehension when it comes to their new fall dance classes at Dance Cavise. There is always a transitional period for the first month or two, where most students will reacquaint themselves to the rhythm and language of dance. Also, as in school, new teachers will need to get to know their students individually as well as a group so they can determine the pace of the class. All in all, things generally "settle in" by October and teachers can start "pushing" their classes accordingly. While it is still hard saying goodbye to the wonderful summer we had, we look with great anticipation for a new and exciting dance season with your children.
In addition we look forward to a new season with Off Center Dance Theatre Youth Ensemble. This not-for-profit performance company, in residence at Dance Cavise, will audition its members on October 11th, 2005. This is a wonderful opportunity for your son or daughter to give back to the community through dance. The community outreach mission of OCDT has become very important to us. We invite you to help, if not as a dancer, then as a volunteer. This year, look for our second annual Dance-A-Thon, our first Father-Daughter Dance and, of course, our annual Silent Auction and Dance Invitational coming this Spring.
Thanks for a great summer and hope to see you this autumn.

Summer Fun At "Camp Cavise"
There was magic in the air this summer as students sang and danced their way through seven weeks of performing arts camp. Along with dance, dance, dance which included tap, ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and musical theatre, campers studied costume and set design as well as vocal technique. During the first session, campers felt like stars while dining in the celebrity boxes crt the Westchester Broadway Theatre before watching Oliver.
Second session campers traveled to Broadway to see Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang, getting autographs from the stars after the show. Traditional camp favorites such as Hoedown, Hawaiian Luau, Ice Cream and Crazy Hair Days made our summer even more exciting. The campers created a final performance, "The King Who Lost His Bling", directed by Joe Cavise, at Sts. John and Paul School in Larchmont. Because of this year's talent, campers created one of their most complex scripts ever, which was enthusiastically received by the audience. Contrats for a job well done to all of our campers. We look forward to seeing you again next year. If your children are bitten by the "theatre bug", and don't want to travel far, consider "Camp Cavise". Early registration begins in January 2006. Don't miss out on the magic.
Auditions are open to the public to dancers in the fifth grade and higher. Company members will perform in concert productionsas well as participate in mentoring and community outreach programs throughout the season. OCDT, under the direction of Joe Anthony Cavise, is a not-for-profit organization with two missions: community outreach and dance performance. Anyone wishing to have the company perform or hold workshops, or for more information, please call 381-8080. |

Kid Korner This issue's Kid Korner is written by My name is Erica Huang. I am 9 years old and I am a professional actor. I started acting for fun when I was six years old, playing the part of Molly in "Annie". Last summer the director of the play introduced me to a woman who manages kids professionally. Now about once a week I go into New York City to audition for TV commercials, Broadway shows, and movies. In the last year I have been in three commercials and was also chosen to do the voice of the character June on a show called "Little Einsteins", which is going to begin in September on the Playhouse Disney Channel. About once a week for the last year I have been going into the city to record episodes of the show, and now I can't wait for the show to finally come out. I love dancing at Dance Cavise for two reasons. First, I love the classes and teachers there. Camp Cavise, the Summer Camp, is awesome. This is my second summer and I love working on a whole show with a script, music and dancing. The second reason I love Dance Cavise is because I learn a lot about performing there. I love doing theatre shows and this summer I am playing the part of "Amaryllis" in "The Music Man” at the Tarrytown Music Hall. The show has a lot of dancing in it and Dance Cavise classes have really helped me prepare for the role. I know that whatever my fortune holds, dancing will always be a part of my life. I am grateful to have found such a great dance program at Dance Cavise. |
